Mission For Today: sincerely smile and thank someone for the work they did

When was the last time you took a moment, smiled and really thanked someone for the work they did? Concluding your emails with “thanks!” or responding with “thanks” when someone agrees to a request are quick and simple ways to show some appreciation. Still, there is something special when you take that moment, look a colleague in the eye and tell them that you recognize the work they are doing and thank them for the effort. It goes beyond being polite. It shows that you value the other person.

So, today, sincerely thank someone for what they are doing. It will make both of you feel good! Maybe you’ll start a trend.

When you have completed your mission, please share your experience in the comments. How did the person react? Did they pay it forward?

About Liza Wood

After a dozen years leading video game development projects in a variety of roles, I decided to pursue a Master of Data Science at the University of British Columbia. Studying data science doesn’t mean I’m moving away from leading people. Growing data science teams need collaborative, pragmatic, Agile leadership to connect data to all areas of the business. I would like to share that point of view, along with my experiences, on this blog.
