[Reblog] Yes, It’s Legal… (Ask A Manager)

Career

Wednesday was a very long day, not leaving me much time or energy to write. So today’s post is a reblog of a funny – and educational – post from Ask A Manager from a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been following Alison Green’s blog for several years now and really enjoy and value her straight-forward, no-nonsense advice. When I read her Ode To Bad Manager Of My Past, I was hooked.

Alison and Suzanne Lucas from Evil HR Lady are constantly asked questions about whether a particular incident or behaviour is legal. Although the questions are certainly based on American law and employment practices, I am often amazed on what people think might be illegal and/or a reason to sue. I was delighted to see this blog post. Not only does it dispel many of the myths of what is legal, it’s also hilarious to read what some people think might be illegal.

So take a few minutes and visit Ask A Manager and read her post: “Yes, it’s legal… queries from a combined 13 years of blogging about the workplace“. Enjoy!

About Liza Wood

After a dozen years leading video game development projects in a variety of roles, I decided to pursue a Master of Data Science at the University of British Columbia. Studying data science doesn’t mean I’m moving away from leading people. Growing data science teams need collaborative, pragmatic, Agile leadership to connect data to all areas of the business. I would like to share that point of view, along with my experiences, on this blog.
