Mission for today: share holiday treats with your team
This time of year, we are surrounded by all sorts of holiday treats – candies, chocolates, the list goes on. You may even have too much at home. As your team winds down for the holiday, why not bring in a treat and share it with your team? Put a box of candy canes, chocolates or cookies on your desk and invite the team to come by and help themselves. Every Christmas, I bake a variety of cookies, but my husband and I cannot possibly eat them all. So, I bring them into the office and share them with the team. This year, one artist ran to my desk within seconds of receiving my email about the cookies. The smile on his face: priceless.
If you don’t celebrate mainstream holidays like Christmas, Easter, etc., share something from your own culture or tradition from the time of year or when your own cultural holidays come up. For example, a friend from India goes to the movies on Christmas day. It would be awesome if she made a big bowl of popcorn and shared it as a mid-afternoon snack. I also personally like the Chinese Moon Festival when moon cakes make an appearance in the office.
Sharing treats and cultural traditions is a simple way to learn more about your team and build an appreciation for the diversity around us.
When you have completed the mission, please share the results in the comments. What did you share with the team? How was it received?
